Alex DeTurk is Masterdisk's ace lacquer cutter. A short list of Alex's recent cuts includes Sting, Lou Reed, John Zorn, Tom Zé, John Fahey, Agalloch, Ted Leo, Skip James, the Melvins, and the Dear Hunter. Alex masters for CD too -- but whether it's digital or analog work, Alex brings incredible ears and expert craftsmanship to every project.
Alex began his music career at an early age with the drums, and continues to play today. Throughout high school, Alex extended his interest with music into recording and engineering for friends and local bands.
After high school he decided on NYU's technology program, because of its academic excellence and its location in the heart of NYC.
After graduating and making a brief tour of China, Alex settled into the studio life. Working as an assistant at Avatar studios, he gained valuable engineering experience that he draws upon regularly today.
In addition to mastering, Alex is interested in working directly with artists, producing and often engineering as well. At Masterdisk Alex has become an expert at the VMS 80 cutting lathe and he continues to enjoy the technical considerations that go into mastering specifically for vinyl.
Contact Alex at alex@masterdisk.com or booking manager Zan Sabini at zan@masterdisk.com or (212) 541-5022 today to discuss your next mastering project.
