Photo of Marcus Suiero-Bal

Marcos has worked with audio since he was a 6th grader in his native Spain. Since then, he has relentlessly been recording, mixing, and mastering artists such as Elvis Costello, The Dirty Projectors, Bjork, Pierre Dorge, John Legend, Inara George, Brazilian Girls, Stew, Mudville, Ricardo Lemvo, Marilyn Crispell, Captain Kirk (the Roots), NUBLU Orchestra, Bilal, Vijay Iyer, Karsh Kale, Hamid Drake, and many others.

Marcos' archival and restoration work has taken him to the Alan Lomax Archives, Columbia University, Emory University, WNYC, and the Center for Black Music Research, among others. In 2008 he was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Historical Recording as mastering engineer for Polk Miller and His Old South Quartette (Tompkins Square).

While at Columbia University he developed AVDb, a preservation priority tool for audio and moving image materials, and used it to visually survey more than 40,000 items. He currently teaches the Audio Preservation session at the Palmer School of Library Science.
